Sister of Domino's CEO Don Meij to lead Australia-NZ operations

Domino's Pizza Enterprises' (ASX: DMP) new Australia-New Zealand CEO, Kerri Hayman.

Domino's Pizza Enterprises (ASX: DMP) has appointed one of the early pioneers of the pizza brand in Australia, who happens to be the sister of CEO Don Meij, to lead its local operations as Kerri Hayman assumes the mantle of CEO for Australia-New Zealand at the Brisbane-based group.

Since 2023 Hayman has been the chief operating officer (COO) for Domino's ANZ, the group's driving force of sales growth, following 14 years working for the Domino’s brand internationally including as the operations director for the UK-listed Domino’s Pizza Group (LSE: DOM).

Hayman's career with the brand also includes a stint as a franchisee with 14 Domino's stores in the USA in South Carolina and Georgia.

Her history with the group dates back to when she was 15 years' old working as a pizza maker for her brother at Silvio's Pizza in Redcliffe, Queensland, and at the age of 21 she became one of the youngest ever franchisee consultants for Silvio’s - a brand that acquired the Domino's brand in Australia in 1993.

"Don needed staff and the plan was to only work for him for a few months to help him out, but I ended up quitting my other job at a bakery and staying on," Hayman says of her start with the business as a teenager.

"Understanding where we’ve come from, and the extraordinary potential of where Domino’s can take you, will be a real advantage in supporting our next generation of store owners."

DMP currently has approximately 750 stores in Australia and a long-term outlook to expand this number to 1,000.

The surrounding population per store in Australia is far lower than the brand has in Europe, for example, yet despite this lower density Australia is a leading source of growth, and since mid-2023 more stores have expanded their trading hours to meet the demand for lunch time and late-night orders, especially through delivery.

The group notes that under Hayman's leadership as COO Domino’s has delivered the highest customer satisfaction scores and product quality scores (as rated by customers) in more than three years, with improved sales and profitability for franchise partners and corporate stores.

She is also a member of Domino’s Pizza International’s Global Operations Council and has established a Global Operations Board for DMP to share best practice between international markets.

Hayman has also launched the Women in Domino’s grant, which will support seven young female store managers become franchise partners. The program is now being expanded to develop emerging leaders from store managers to entrepreneurs.

"When I returned to Australia, I was coming home in more ways than one; I grew up in this business and worked alongside so many team members who are now some of our most successful and longest-serving franchise partners," she says.

"My experience as a team member, in operations, and as multi-store owner, has fostered enormous empathy for the rewards and challenges that are an essential part of this business.

“I believe it has also helped me build credibility with our franchise partners, store managers and team members and now, in this more public facing role, I hope to build that same rapport with our customers, and our shareholders.

"Over the past year our customers have told us our product quality and service has never been better. But our team never rests and – with the new products we will be launching combined with an ongoing focus on product quality and value – I can’t wait to show what we can deliver."

Domino’s chairman Jack Cowin, who holds more than a quarter of DMP's shares and is also the founder of Hungry Jack's as Burger King's Australian franchise, says the group is confident that it has "the right leadership for the future, and with Kerri’s appointment, the best person for the job".

"The Board of Directors are thrilled that Domino’s provides an unrivalled opportunity to help team members grow and prosper, whether it’s a part time job, as an award-winning franchise partner, an executive – or all three," Cowin says.
