SUNNY QUEEN LANDS TAIWAN 'EGGSPORT' DEAL

BRISBANE-based egg farmer Sunny Queen has cracked the Taiwan market, after its first consignment was approved.

The first batch of more than 21,000 eggs has been cleared for release, after being reviewed by the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine in Taiwan.

Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Barnaby Joyce says this lays the foundation for new export opportunities for egg industry.

He says the egg industry is worth $700 million to the Australian economy.

"This is an important step forward in strengthening the Australian egg industry's presence in the international market," Joyce says.

"We now have bilaterally agreed certification for Australian eggs and egg products exported to Taiwan.

"I hope to see Taiwan become one of our key egg and egg product export markets, alongside Singapore and Hong Kong."

Sunny Queen managing director John O'Hara says it is a promising start in an area rich with potential for export opportunity.

"We have a strong focus on innovation in our business, with a team focused on developing innovative new egg products and meal solutions that deliver on quality, convenience and importantly food safety," O'Hara says.

"We believe that this first shipment to Taiwan is just the start of an exciting new direction for our business. The assistance of Minister Joyce and his team has been invaluable in making this happen, and we hope to build on this partnership to drive future growth."
